All About Cold Forging

Forging is one along the most conventional method of shaping of metal like steel using localized compressive forces. This process is often classified in two types hot or warm and cold, based on the temperature at which it has to be performed. Out of the most of the metal molding is done using Cold forging method.
Cold forging is a process which is essentially performed using a pressing tool or a die. Whatsoever is the shape of the pressing tool used in the process, will also be the shape of the molded metal. This process is usually performed in room or close to room temperature. During the process of simple Cold forging, a metallic bar (may be steel, aluminum, iron or copper) or wire stock is placed below the stamping or pressing tool and pressurized. The most common outputs are the nails, a bolt or the screw with a head. If the desired outputs are the heads of screw drivers or knurls, then the former have to undergo the forging process once again.
Besides, the basic Cold forging process, there are more complex processes as well, which are meant for production of solid shapes like circles, triangles or rectangles, inner and outer circular diameters or rectangles forming around a circle, with the use of forward, backward or side extrusion. At times the blend or a series of these processes may be used to get the desired or customized output, so as to allow the manufacturer to fabricate different shapes and designs to the material.
One such complicated out of the forging is Socket Welding flange. These flanges were originally developed for use on small sized high pressure piping. These flanges usually are suitable for smaller sizes and higher pressure temperature conditions, just like slip-on flanges. Their static strength is quite equivalent to double welding slip-on flanges, when they are provided with an internal weld, however, the exhaustion power 50% more. The small niche on the internal diameter of the socket weld flange let the pipe to fit in properly and hence allow the fluid to flow properly.
